Who We Are
The African Wellbeing Support Network grew out of the African Mental Health Learning Circle, a community-based initiative supported by NSW STARTTS and funded by Dooley’s Lidcombe Catholic Club from 2018 to 2020.
It began with a simple idea: bring African community leaders, elders, young people, and mainstream health and mental health services into the same room, monthly, to discuss access and equity issues bordering on service provision.
What started as a series of learning circles has now grown into an independent, community-led network, registered as a not-for-profit entity, enabling African communities across NSW to lead their own mental health and AOD promotions and prioritise their wellbeing in collaboration with key stakeholders.
